So why choose physical therapy?- Physical therapy provides a thorough evaluation of your condition including an assessment of your flexibility, strength, balance, posture, as well as helping you to problem solve WHY your symptoms began in the first place (many symptoms arise as a result of poor posture with too much sitting, overuse, etc)
- Treatment is multi-faceted and can include:
- Hands-on work including massage and gentle joint mobilization
- Targeted strengthening and stretching (not just WHAT to do but HOW to do it correctly) and providing you a home exercise program
- Modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and heat or ice when appropriate
- Neuromuscular reeducation: a fancy word which is based on first educating you on how to use your body differently during activities of daily living (ie. Sitting, computer use, sleeping, lifting, etc) and with exercise (ie. During cycling, weight training, etc) as well as helping you to "find" muscles that have "shut off" leading to compensation patterns.
